About the role:

As a Senior Engineer, Packaging Innovation, you will support growth, innovation and sustainability within a global consumer products company. This role covers a broad scope across New Product Development, innovation and sustainability, working closely with management and cross‑functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

The position has a strong focus on re‑branding initiatives and updates to packaging labels, components and artwork. You will lead communication with packaging suppliers, Herbalife Manufacturing and contract manufacturers to ensure quality, accuracy and design consistency across all product types. A key expectation is maintaining a consistent, premium nutraceutical brand image across all packaging activities. Strong attention to detail is essential throughout development and commercialisation, including the maintenance of accurate specifications, BOMs and related documentation.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in Herbalife global rebranding and packaging modernization initiatives by designing, testing, validating and launching new packaging and products across inner and outer nutrition.
  • Strong voice regarding innovative design and materials for both primary and secondary components resulting in industry leading packaging and sustainability.
  • Maintain project timelines, tasks, and costs to ensure on-time, on-cost launches of new products.
  • Manage all aspects of component specification development, BOM creation and document retention for packaging materials across all Herbalife systems.
  • Work closely with manufacturing locations, both internally and externally, on trial runs, pilots, 1st production and other development activities to test, validate and launch packaging.
  • Compile samples, quotes and specifications as required on both primary and secondary packaging components.
  • Assist with sustainability efforts on packaging materials across all business segments globally.
  • Collaborate with Sourcing, Quality and R&D to identify and audit new suppliers and CM’s for innovation projects and novel packaging components.
  • Conducts packaging component/material tests, completes test protocols and leads plant trials at Contract Manufacturer facilities.
  • Lead post-launch packaging quality monitoring by collaborating with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing teams to identify, investigate, and resolve packaging-related issues, ensuring continuous product integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive cost optimization and continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing packaging materials, processes, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for efficiency gains, waste reduction, and cost savings without compromising quality or brand standards.
  • Ensure packaging operations and documentation are fully aligned with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and internal quality systems by adhering to established protocols, supporting audits, and maintaining compliance with global regulatory and safety standards.

 

 

Our requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Packaging Engineering with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Proven experience in New Product Development, innovation and product launches within consumer goods, food or dietary supplement environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of plastics (rigid and flexible), corrugated, labels and paperboard, including relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Solid understanding of packaging sustainability principles and the global regulatory landscape influencing design and material selection.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and external suppliers.
  • Strong time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Hands‑on experience with flexible laminates, mono‑material films and resealable pouch systems for powder products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in line conversion activities (tooling, sealing, gas flushing, check‑weighing) and secondary packaging redesign for pouch formats
  •  Proficiency in ASTM and ISO packaging test methods, including data analysis for seal integrity and barrier performance
  •  Working knowledge of EMEA packaging regulations and labelling requirements for flexible packaging, with strong documentation discipline (BOMs, specifications, traceability).
  • Very good command of English (min. C1 level). Additional languages are a plus.
  • Nice to have: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
